Global Economic Realities Detailed in New Lauder Institute Report
From the burgeoning Russian gambling market to the emergence of corporate social responsibility in China, Wharton MBA students share perspective on new global economy
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) today announced the release of its second annual Lauder Global Business Insight Report 2010: First Hand Perspectives on the Global Economy, a collection of 16 articles detailing how global business environments are evolving around the world.
"These articles explore some of the most exciting dynamics in our growing global economy," said Mauro Guillen, Director of the Lauder Institute. "It is obvious from these case studies that cultural, political and institutional issues are playing an increasingly significant role."
The articles, written by Wharton MBA students who spent an intensive two months abroad through the Lauder Institute's Summer Immersion program, explore aspects of the global business landscape in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Case studies include perspectives on consumer markets in Brazil, Egypt and China, and the impact of the crisis on French luxury goods. Other articles examine the growth of organic products in Germany, solar energy in Senegal, Japan's eco-tech industry, Russia's gambling industry, sustainable tourism in Egypt and how high-end gastronomy in Spain is breaking new ground in the leisure business.
Case studies also include a review of China's new venture capital environment and mutual fund industries, the urban geographic areas on the rise, and their growing awareness of social corporate responsibility. The report also includes a review of infrastructure and financial services surrounding mobile Internet in Latin America, the rise to prominence of Spanish infrastructure management companies, and a new form of transparent, customer-driven banking in Spain.
