Global Crossing EtherSphere™ Service Keeps Data Center Operations on Track for Railcar Provider TTX Company
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that TTX Company, North America's leading provider of railcars and related freight car management services, is using Global Crossing's new EtherSphere™ Service to support TTX Company's data center back-up services, as well as to support TTX Company's business operations at seven U.S. locations. Under the agreement signed with Global Crossing, the railroad services company also has purchased Global Crossing's IP VPN Service™ and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) service.
Global Crossing has interconnected TTX Company's data center to Global Crossing's leading Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) converged IP network by replacing circuits from multiple providers and by converging access to Global Crossing's private and public IP backbone, resulting in a more efficient and flexible network architecture.
"The flexibility of Global Crossing's EtherSphere service enables us to fine-tune our network needs according to business dynamics," said Jerry Gott, senior manager of network infrastructure at TTX Company. "Having this flexibility has significantly improved the efficiency of our business today, and will provide similar benefits over the long run."
"By using our EtherSphere service, TTX Company is able to access a high-speed connection from its data center directly to our IP VPN and DIA backbone, replacing a key circuit from its previous provider," said Neil Barua, Global Crossing's managing director for North America. "This met their business goals to improve network efficiency and reduce cost."
Global Crossing's EtherSphere services are part of the company's Ethernet WAN transport portfolio of services and include EtherSphere Multipoint-to-Multipoint, EtherSphere Point-to-Multipoint and EtherSphere Point-to-Point solutions. The services are available today to enterprise and wholesale customers in North America, Europe and Latin America.
The EtherSphere Ethernet WAN transport portfolio of services offers customers ubiquitous, global Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS). EtherSphere solutions use mature, familiar Ethernet technology for wide area transport of enterprise services, such as file sharing, email, document management, enterprise resource planning, and real-time collaboration. The technology is reliable, can easily accommodate additional bandwidth in small increments, offers cost efficiencies traditionally associated with Ethernet, and works with other Global Crossing WAN solutions, such as Global Crossing IP VPN Service. EtherSphere service is provided over Global Crossing's dedicated MPLS backbone network to ensure high-speed, reliable, and region-to-region connectivity. Global Crossing's EtherExtend converged services access solution further accommodates other Global Crossing services, such as IP voice SIP Trunking and Collaboration, and access to the Internet.
Global Crossing's EtherSphere services support six classes of service that enable users to prioritize traffic to maximize bandwidth use and efficiency. The service also offers a highly desirable usage-based billing component that helps enterprises more easily accommodate irregular and unpredictable bandwidth use, as well as more effectively manage their network costs. This is especially beneficial for backup and disaster recovery implementations.
Global Crossing's global MPLS-based IP VPN Service provides true global reach, scalable connectivity, greater security, guaranteed quality of service, multiple access options, and flexible billing options. The solution is the network of choice for a fully managed converged IP solution that seamlessly combines data, voice, video and multimedia applications on a single IP-based platform. IP VPN service is provided with robust service level agreement metrics and provides customers with end-to-end visibility into their networks so they can promptly verify service levels in real-time.
Global Crossing also is a Tier 1 global Internet provider, and its DIA service offers connectivity to all domains worldwide, optimizing traffic routing. Global Crossing's global, fully meshed IP MPLS network provides unrivaled reach with state-of-the-art flexibility and availability.
