Global Crossing Employees Collect 41 Tons of Food for Needy Families
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that its first annual company-wide food drive – called "Food Fight!" – amassed donations in food and cash equivalents from employees that amounted to just over 41 tons. The food drive took place from October 13 through November 17, 2010, at Global Crossing offices in North America, the United Kingdom and Asia. Participating offices took part in a friendly competition to see which location could collect the most food. Food items were distributed to local food banks near these Global Crossing locations.
Global Crossing's company-wide Food Fight! effort is just one of the numerous employee experience activities conducted by the company throughout the year and around the world. Activities are driven by local employee experience coordinators, such as Joan Austin of the company's Southfield, Mich., office, who proposed the company-wide food drive to help fight hunger for families in need around the world.
"I would like to thank all of the Global Crossing locations and employees who participated in the food drive and congratulate them on their magnanimous donations," said Ms. Austin. "Of course, the biggest winners of Food Fight! are the thousands of individuals and families in need who will benefit from this truly amazing outpouring of goodwill."
Global Crossing's Toronto, Ontario, office won in the Food Fight! competition in the "pounds per employee" category by collecting 478 pounds per person, while the Southfield, Mich., office won in the "total weight of food" category with 24,971 pounds or approximately 12.5 tons.
"Global Crossing's local employee experience coordinators deserve a huge round of applause for their efforts in promoting and managing the collection of so much food in a relatively short time and for working to assist local food banks," said Laurinda Pang, vice president of Human Resources for Global Crossing. "This program could not have happened, or been so successful, without the commitment and hard work of these employees."
