Global Automakers Applauds Introduction of Connecticut ZEV Rebates

WASHINGTON, May 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Global Automakers (Global Automakers) applauds Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy's announcement regarding the creation of the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) pilot program.

"Governor Malloy understands that point-of-sale rebates are one of the most effective incentives to spur demand for environmentally friendly vehicles," said John Bozzella, president and CEO of Global Automakers. "We applaud his work on the CHEAPR program. It is an important step toward building a green car market in Connecticut to the benefit of consumers and the environment."

CHEAPR is a $1 million pilot program to make green vehicles more affordable by providing a point-of-sale rebate, up to $3,000, for the purchase or lease of battery-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The program is also the first in the nation to provide, in addition to the customer rebate, a cash incentive to the auto dealer for each transaction.

Connecticut was one of eight states that signed a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding^{^[1]} (MOU), committing to support, promote, and ensure a robust market for ZEVs.
