Glenmorangie Pride 1981 whisky is the culmination of 28 years of passion, patience and artistry. Dr. Bill Lumsden, Master Distiller and Head of Whisky Creation, renowned for utilizing extra maturation to delivering deep and complex flavors, crafted this ground-breaking whisky. At its heart is the remarkable Glenmorangie 1981 Vintage, which was aged for 18 years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. The whisky was then extra-matured exclusively in Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes casks for an additional 10 years before being bottled at 56.7% ABV. The whisky is presented in a striking Baccarat crystal decanter and wooden case.
To showcase this exceptional whisky creation, Glenmorangie collaborated with one of the most artistic and celebrated chefs in the world, three-star Michelin Chef Pierre Gagnaire, at his Las Vegas restaurant Twist by Pierre Gagnaire at The Mandarin Oriental. Considered an iconoclast in the culinary fusion movement, Chef Gagnaire puts an innovative and contemporary twist on traditional French cuisine, with unexpected and exuberant combinations that delight the senses. "We immediately knew that a pairing between Chef Gagnaire's cuisine and Dr. Bill Lumsden's Glenmorangie Pride 1981 would be unique. Beyond their innovative visions, they are both passionate about their respective art forms," commented Brian Cox, VP Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
The four-course dinner menu was crafted specially by Chef Gagnaire for the occasion after meeting with Dr. Lumsden in Paris. Dr. Lumsden noted, "It was an honor to work with Chef Pierre Gagnaire to execute the evening's menu. Chef Gagnaire provided an unforgettable experience for our guests, all within the sumptuous surroundings of Twist at the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas."
The finale was the unveiling and tasting of the exquisite Pride 1981 conducted by Dr. Lumsden.
One hundred decanters of Glenmorangie Pride 1981 will be available for purchase in the U.S. starting July 2011. Glenmorangie will be donating a number of bottles to partner institutions in support of various charities.
