MILL VALLEY, Calif., Dec. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Glassdoor, the world's most transparent jobs and recruiting marketplace, has announced the winners of its ninth annual Employees' Choice Awards, honoring the Best Places to Work in 2017 across North America and parts of Europe. Unlike any other workplace awards, the Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards are based solely on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback, by completing a company review, about their job, work environment and employer over the past year.
This year, the Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards feature six distinct categories, honoring the Best Places to Work across the U.S., Canada, UK, France and Germany. There are two categories in the U.S.: 50 Best Places to Work (honoring employers with 1,000 or more employees) and 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For (honoring employers with less than 1,000 employees). Winners are ranked based on their overall rating achieved during the past year. (Ratings based on a 5-point scale: 1.0=very dissatisfied, 3.0=OK, 5.0=very satisfied):
The top five Best Places to Work in 2017 are:
- Bain & Company (4.6 rating)
- Facebook (4.5 rating)
- Boston Consulting Group (4.4 rating)
- Google (4.4 rating)
- World Wide Technology (4.4 rating)
The top five Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For in 2017 are:
- Greenhouse Software (4.9 rating)
- Illuminate Education (4.9 rating)
- Entelo (4.9 rating)
- SailPoint Technologies (4.8 rating)
- SeatGeek (4.8 rating)
"Company culture and the employee experience are critical considerations for job seekers everywhere when deciding where to work. To help, the Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards recognize companies that truly stand out as Best Places to Work because they're purely determined by the authentic voice of those who really know a company best - the employees," said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and co-founder. "Employers where employees love to work continue to prove that they have a recruiting and business performance edge. We're proud to celebrate the 2017 Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards winners in earning this incredible achievement."
Glassdoor's 50 Best Places to Work in 2017 list features winning employers across diverse industries spanning technology, consulting, travel and tourism, consumer goods, retail, food services and more. Bain & Company is the first company to rank No. 1 three times (2017, 2014 and 2012), and is among only three employers that have made this list for nine consecutive years. The other two employers include Google (No. 4, 4.4 rating) and Apple (No. 36, 4.2 rating). Fourteen employers are on this list for the first time this year, including Clorox (No. 12, 4.3 rating), lululemon (No. 38, 4.2 rating) and SpaceX (No. 40, 4.2 rating), among others.
On the 2017 list of the 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For, the top five employers are all newcomers to this list.
When employees submit reviews about their company on Glassdoor, they are asked to give their opinion on some of the best reasons to work for their employer (pros), any downsides (cons) and are encouraged to provide advice to management. Employees are also asked to rate how satisfied they are with their employer overall, rate their CEO, as well as rate five key workplace attributes, including giving their opinion on career opportunities, compensation & benefits, culture & values, senior management and work-life balance. In addition, employees are asked whether they would recommend their employer to a friend and whether they believe their employer's business will perform better, worse or remain the same in the next six months.
Employees' Choice Award winners for the 2017 Best Places to Work and Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For are determined using Glassdoor's proprietary algorithm, taking into account the quantity, quality and consistency of Glassdoor-approved company reviews shared by U.S.-based employees between November 2, 2015 and October 30, 2016. At a minimum, employers considered for the large list must have received at least 75 company reviews, and companies considered for the small & medium list must have received at least 25 company reviews, respectively, during the eligibility period. For reporting simplicity, ratings are displayed to the nearest tenth, though calculations extend beyond the thousandth to determine final rank.
