RALEIGH, N.C., July 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Elster (NYSE: ELT) announced today that Kentucky's Glasgow Electric Plant Board (Glasgow EPB) has selected Elster's EnergyAxis® Smart Grid solution to deliver advanced time-of-use (TOU) billing capabilities to its customers.

By deploying the EnergyAxis solution across its infrastructure, Glasgow EPB expects improved operational efficiencies and anticipates empowering its customers to better manage energy usage and lower energy costs.
Glasgow EPB is one of the 155 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) power distributors, and an active member of the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA). TVPPA represents utilities who receive power from the TVA, a federally owned corporation providing electricity for nine million people across southeastern states. As part of its decades long work toward its vision of Infotricity, Glasgow EPB will install more than 7,500 Elster Smart Meters before July 2015.
"Elster has the technology and track record of Smart Grid success that made the EnergyAxis solution the winning choice for our deployment," said William J. Ray, Superintendent, Glasgow EPB.
"By providing our customers with consumption information enabled by the Elster technology, we are empowering them to make more informed decisions on when, and how much, energy they use, helping reshape the power demands which Glasgow EPB and TVA must satisfy. The Elster Smart Grid solution will also enable us to improve business and operational processes across our entire electric infrastructure," Ray added.
Glasgow EPB is the latest TVA power distributor to partner with Elster as part of the TVA's move toward TOU rates. Using Elster EnergyAxis, Glasgow EPB is rolling out advanced metering and communications technologies to provide these new rate options, giving the utility's consumers greater control of their energy use and costs.
"Elster continues to work with TVA members such as Glasgow EPB to modernize utility infrastructures and deliver value to customers," said Mark Munday, president and CEO of Elster Solutions.
"Utilities across North America rely on the Elster EnergyAxis solution to deliver TOU rates and greater electric grid efficiency to their customers, making the benefits of the Smart Grid more tangible to energy consumers," Munday added.
