Giving Peace Of Find: Pixie Technology's Location Trackers Brings Magical Augmented Reality Experience To Finding Lost Items
First of Its Kind Solution Uses Augmented Reality Navigation, Signaling Technology and Location Engine to Give Every Day Physical Items a Digital Identity That Can Be Located Quickly Down to Inches
LOS ALTOS, Calif., Jan. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Twice a week, nearly a quarter of consumers misplace their house or car keys and more than half say that misplaced items regularly cause them to be late to work or school1. Today, thanks to Pixie, and the launch of Pixie™ Points, the most advanced tracking solution on the market, we will soon be living in a world where lost and misplaced items are a thing of the past. Unlike outdated Bluetooth trackers that rely on beeps to guide you to lost items, Pixie turns your phone into a magical augmented reality interface to actually SHOW you the location of misplaced objects. Pixie is a game changer in location tracking technology that makes finding lost items fun, fast and frustration free.
Achieving Peace of Find – How It Works
Developed over three years by Pixie Technology (www.getpixie.com), a pioneer and leader in the emerging Location of Things (LoT) sector, the ingenious solutions use highly advanced tags called Pixie Points that give everyday physical items digital identities. These items can then be quickly located with the Pixie app powered by the Location of Things platform.
To Pixify items, Pixie Points affix to everything from keys, wallets and remotes to toys, passports and luggage, allowing them to be quickly located with an iOS device. To find Pixified items, users simply open the Pixie app and tap the misplaced item they need to find, e.g. car keys. The app immediately says whether the item is close by and guides users to its location in the following three simple steps:
- Map it - With a motion similar to taking a panoramic photo, a simple scan of the room maps the immediate environment and locates Pixified items' positions relative to the user.
- Show it - The Pixie app reveals and points users to the location of the item with the Pixie Pointer, an arrow icon that shows both the direction and distance from the object. Pixie also has a unique, new trick up its sleeve – Pixie Dust! Pixie displays an Augmented Reality overlay consisting of Pixie Dust that swarms to show where the item is in the room. The Pixie Dust and Pointer can even see through walls and objects to guide users to items that are hiding behind a cushion, in a drawer or in an adjoining room.
- Grab it - Once users are within five feet of the lost item, the Pixie app acts like a metal detector to accurately zero-in on the target. The Pixie app provides visual and audio guidance telling users if they are getting closer or farther away from the lost object
Pixie locates and guides users to items down to inches and has an outdoor range of 150 feet and works within 30-50 feet indoors. You can see it in action here.
Powering the Search Engine of Life
The magic and accuracy of Pixie is the product of a highly advanced Location of Things (LoT) platform that creates micro-mesh networks in which all Pixie Points continually signal and communicate their relative distance from one another so that maps of all the Pixie Points can be calculated using similar principles to that of GPS systems.
This first of its kind platform is one of the most completed location technologies ever created. While IoT technology allows objects to connect and be controlled via the Internet, the Pixie LoT platform maps the location of connected objects. With the Pixie LoT platform, we will soon be in a world where everything around us can be given a digital identity and is instantly locatable.
One Pixie Point is attached to a mobile phone to act like the anchor with the remaining points affixed to Pixified items. Each Pixie Point acts like a small satellite, providing distance information from each other just like GPS. They constantly communicate with each other through their internal, innovative signaling technology that continually triangulates their positions relative to each other within a 150-foot outdoor or 50-foot indoor range. The more Pixies in a network the greater the accuracy of the maps.
"Current tracking solutions use basic technology and rely on sounds and alerts to approximate locations," said Amir Bassan-Eskenazi, CEO and co-founder of Pixie Technology. "With Pixie Points and our LoT platforms, we take the guess work out of tracking an object by showing people where an item is hiding through walls and down to inches. We will soon be in a world where everything around us can be given a digital identity, and Pixie looks forward to delivering a future where lost and misplaced items are a thing of the past."
With a 12 month battery life Pixie Points are 1.9in x 1.4in x 0.1in in size and are water and dust resistant to IP67 standards. They can be purchased for Apple devices today, in a range of different packages at www.getpixie.com. For $99.99, a package of four Pixie Points can be purchased along with a specially designed Pixie Point housing iPhone case. A two pack along with iPhone cases will cost $49.99. Android capabilities and additional functionalities will follow with announcements later in 2017.
