GiveWell Names Nurse-Family Partnership its Top U.S. Charity
DENVER, Dec. 20, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nurse-Family Partnership® is the #1 ranked U.S. charity on GiveWell, according to the independent charity evaluator's current rankings. GiveWell has scrutinized 409 charities to date, and Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is one of only 11 nonprofits worldwide presently recommended as worthy of philanthropic investment. NFP also ranks as the #9 charity worldwide. In its evaluation of Nurse-Family Partnership — the nonprofit that oversees an evidence-based home visitation program, in which registered nurses make home visits to low-income, first-time mothers — GiveWell called NFP's evidence of effectiveness "strong" and its programmatic monitoring and evaluation as "excellent." GiveWell gave NFP a Gold Medal in its overall assessment, making NFP one of just two charities to receive this designation, and the only one based in the United States.

"We are honored by GiveWell's recognition for our evidence-based approach to improving the lives of America's most vulnerable families," said NFP President & CEO Thomas R. Jenkins, Jr. "We hope this endorsement of our effectiveness, from a leading charity evaluator, will allow donors to support our efforts with confidence."
Elsewhere in the GiveWell rankings, Nurse-Family Partnership was recognized on a state level: Invest in Kids, the nonprofit organization charged with implementing and managing the Nurse-Family Partnership program throughout Colorado, is currently the #3 U.S. charity on GiveWell.
