Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Conference Premiers in Miami
Popular National Program Brings Local Girls and Leading Women Entrepreneurs Together on September 16
MIAMI, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 100 teen girls from the Miami-Dade County area schools will attend the Girls Going Places® Entrepreneurship Conference, presented by The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), in partnership with L.M. Bravo and Associates, Inc. This is the first time the Miami area girls will have an opportunity to participate in the program that has been growing in popularity across the state where the conference has already been running in three locations, including West Palm, Fort Myers, and Jacksonville.
During the event, more than 25 women business leaders from the region will mentor girls ages 12 through 18 about entrepreneurship, using the conference as a platform to encourage young women to pursue their own business endeavors while instilling the importance of financial responsibility. The conference will be held at the Florida International University's College of Business Administration on Thursday, September 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
"This is an excellent opportunity to expose the minds of young women to what is perceived as an untraditional career path – business ownership," explains Kathy Readinger, national manager of Guardian's Girls Going Places® program. "We are excited to bring the program to Miami to educate and mentor the next generation of local business professionals and demonstrate the potential of embarking on entrepreneurship."
During the interactive conference, local business women will guide the girls through various interactive activities such as "Hot Company®," an entrepreneurial board game that introduces girls to the advantages and challenges of owning one's own business. They will also team up for an exercise called "Product-in-a-Box®," in which they will have the opportunity to design a product and present a marketing plan. The mentors will also share their experiences as successful women in business.
"With budget cuts across our educational institutions, we are delighted to provide additional tools for girls to gain knowledge in business and finance," said Luisa Bravo, principal of L.M. Bravo and Associates and a financial representative of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. "We are proud to support the program and look forward to meeting the up-and-coming business leaders of Miami."
