Each year, Take The Lead honors women from the region whose courage, confidence and character—and leadership—make the world a better place, and thereby serve as role models for the next generation of female leaders. GSEP will host recognition programs next spring in its three primary service areas: March 1 (Philadelphia-area); March 15 (Berks County); and April 27 (Lehigh Valley).
Last year's honorees were The Hon. Elizabeth Ehrlich (Ret.), Virginia Hand, Joni Naugle, Elaine Stanko, Esq., Raquel Otero de Yiengst, Ed.D. (Berks County); Kim Capers, Terry A. Capuano, Debra Frazer-Howze, Priscilla Payne Hurd, Joan Schork, Ph.D. (Lehigh Valley); Sharmain Matlock-Turner, The Hon. Blondell Reynolds Brown, The Hon. Annette M. Rizzo, and Judy Spires (Philadelphia-area).
What differentiates Take The Lead from other award programs is the leadership-development opportunity it provides for girls. Ranging in age from 12 to 18, girls complete an application, interview, and selection process before they take charge of the award programs as emcees, presenters, and hosts with maturity and poise beyond their years. Presenters meet individually with honorees to prepare their introduction comments, and all girl-participants attend corporate-sponsored workshops to develop public speaking, interviewing and interpersonal skills.
Corporate and individual sponsorship opportunities are available. Email [email protected] or call 1.888.564.4657.
With the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania is the largest girl-serving organization in Pennsylvania, with more than 41,000 girl members and 14,000 adult volunteers in Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties. Approximately 80 percent of the nation's women in leadership and executive roles and 70 percent of U.S. Congresswomen are Girl Scout alumnae.
