Gigamon's NetFlow Gains Rapid Market Momentum with Ecosystem Partners
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gigamon® (NYSE: GIMO), a leader in traffic visibility solutions with its innovative Unified Visibility Fabric™, announced today that it has expanded the network of partners that have pre-validated its NetFlow Generation application. Gigamon's ground-breaking application has now been qualified by 11 leading vendors, including Dynatrace, Lancope, LiveAction, LogRhythm, ManageEngine, NIKSUN, Plixer, Riverbed, SevOne, SolarWinds, and WildPackets.
Enhanced flow-level visibility is increasingly used for anomaly and threat detection, identifying and containing Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), as well as deriving information around usage patterns, capacity planning, top talkers, and applications, and building relationships between network elements. An integral element of the Applications Layer of the Unified Visibility Fabric architecture, the NetFlow Generation application runs on GigaSMART high-performance compute engines. The application generates NetFlow records by analyzing live traffic at line rate, and sends the information to one or more NetFlow collectors or analyzers.
Typical use cases for this application include:
- Generating consistent, comprehensive and high quality NetFlow records and automated topology generation from heterogeneous networks that include network elements that lack NetFlow generation capabilities, such as non-Cisco, commodity or white label switches.
- Offloading NetFlow processing from the production network to the Visibility Fabric to avoid performing expensive network infrastructure upgrades to gain visibility.
- Providing a single platform that can be leveraged by multiple security, performance and analytics tools for high fidelity flow-based security and performance analysis.
"The perimeter based model of network security has broken down with rising incidents and breaches coming from within the network," said Shehzad Merchant, Chief Technology Officer at Gigamon. "At the same time, growing east-west traffic within networks further exacerbates the problem of security and compliance due to lack of visibility into this traffic using traditional perimeter based approaches. Application performance monitoring also becomes a challenge in these environments due to lack of access to application traffic that is switched closer to the application. Gigamon's NetFlow solution addresses all these challenges by providing very high fidelity NetFlow records for traffic all the way down to the virtual machine level and delivering these through a single platform to a multitude of security, forensics and performance monitoring tools."
Lancope
"NetFlow data plays a critical role in pinpointing security incidents on the network," said Christopher Smithee, Business Development Director for Lancope. "Lancope's StealthWatch System collects and analyzes vast amounts of NetFlow to quickly identify traffic anomalies that could signify attacks like malware, APTs, DDoS attempts or insider threats. Gigamon provides thorough NetFlow records to help power our advanced security analytics."
Dynatrace
"As businesses evolve to become more digital, there are clear trends towards more agile software releases, and also towards complexity in operations," said Todd Kaloudis, VP of Worldwide Partner Sales at Dynatrace, a leader in application performance management. "This creates a need for easier insight into customer experiences. Gigamon's NetFlow Generation Application provides an effective source of network flow-based information that complements other user-centric and network analytics we provide, enabling IT to improve digital business performance."
Solarwinds
"SolarWinds® Network Performance Monitor and SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer provide visibility into potential performance, availability, traffic and configuration issues," said Chris LaPoint, vice president of product management, SolarWinds. "With the NetFlow information created by Gigamon's Visibility Fabric application, we can monitor all of the infrastructure in an IT professional's data center. As a result, our joint users gain an unprecedented level of visibility into their servers, applications and virtual infrastructure."
NetFlow Generation in the Visibility Fabric is replacing traditional methods of generating and collecting NetFlow at specific points in the network because it centralizes NetFlow generation, offloads this compute intensive job from the production network, and does it effectively at high throughput rates for both sampled and un-sampled traffic. It also increases business agility and insight in a world of mobile applications, users and devices: visibility is frequently lost when applications, users or devices move from one location to another. By centralizing NetFlow generation in the Visibility Fabric, the NetFlow collectors and analyzers maintain a pervasive view even in dynamic networks.
NetFlow Generation is available as a software license starting at $4,995 and is compatible with all GigaSMART applications on Gigamon's H Series platforms.
