Gigamon Selected by US Defense Information Systems Agency to Provide Unified Visibility Fabric for Strategic Network and Cybersecurity Upgrade
Company's Flagship H Series line to Help Solve One of the Military's Biggest Network Defense Challenges
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gigamon® (NYSE: GIMO), a leader in traffic visibility solutions with the innovative Unified Visibility Fabric™ Architecture, announced today the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has selected its GigaVUE-HD4, part of its flagship H Series line of solutions, as part of the Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS), a component of the Department of Defense's (DOD) Joint Information Environment (JIE). Within the DISA's security stack, the GigaVUE-HD4 will enable DISA to establish a higher intelligence management, analysis and security solution for their network infrastructure. The GigaVUE-HD4 nodes will be deployed to fifteen sites spanning the continental US and locations in southwest Asia, providing pervasive traffic visibility and manageability of DOD's infrastructure leading to lower operational cost, reduced security risk and less downtime on this critical DOD network.
The DISA's deployment of Gigamon's solutions is part of the larger shared (DOD) IT architecture plan. The United States Air Force, Army, DISA and Army Cyber Command and Army Network Enterprise Technology Command are currently working to develop a new architecture-sharing and modernization plan that is expected to increase efficiency and network security, and in parallel reduce overall future spending requirements by approximately $1.2 billion over a five year period. As a component part of the new IT architecture plan, the Gigamon Visibility Fabric will increase network visibility while contributing to the cost-savings expectations of the new plan.
"We take great pride in being selected as one of the companies to help take on the very large and complex job of providing intelligent network traffic visibility for the Joint Information Environment," said Paul Hooper, CEO, Gigamon. "As the breadth and scale of networks continue to increase, so does the volume of information moving across those networks. Organizations in both the private and public sectors are faced with the challenges of management and monitoring tools that are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information that needs to be processed, and by the need to reduce capital and operational costs. By providing intelligent visibility to information that is flowing across networks, Gigamon is able to help defense, civilian and intelligence agencies ensure relevant traffic is directed to the appropriate management and security instrumentation."
Part of Gigamon's flagship H Series line of solutions, the GigaVUE-HD4 is a high density chassis-based Visibility Fabric node that utilizes Gigamon's Flow Mapping® technology to intelligently filter, forward, replicate and manage the flow of traffic from production networks to management, analysis, monitoring and security tools. The GigaVUE-HD4 delivers up to 1.3Tb of connectivity in a data-center-ready 5RU form chassis that supports 1Gb, 10Gb, 40Gb and 100Gb connectivity allowing enterprises and data centers of all sizes and scale to deploy a powerful Visibility Fabric, resulting in lower operational costs, higher infrastructure flexibility and improved organizational agility.
