Gifts of Education in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Reno
Anonymous donor steps-up education options for their community
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev., Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sierra Nevada College's Project Eagle, SNC's program to open 4-year degree extension centers, offers students attending community college campuses a path to their bachelor's degrees without the commute or expense of a move to a 4-year university. Now, an anonymous donor has come forward with twenty $10,000 scholarships for extension center students. The scholarships significantly lower the costs of a bachelor's degree and help create a new path for working adults to pursue the opportunities that higher education brings without the disruption of their lives and commitments.
Currently, SNC operates two extension centers, one in Reno, NV at Truckee Meadows Community College and the other in South Lake Tahoe, CA at Lake Tahoe Community College. Already affordable programs, these scholarships will further reduce the cost of attaining a bachelors degree. Students who have strong ties to work and community, but who want to complete their education, can complete their bachelor's degree by attending classes on the community college campus where they currently study.
"These are generous scholarship packages that will make a huge difference in opening doors to higher education to our students and community. We've really enjoyed our continuing partnership with Sierra Nevada College, and their efforts to make these scholarships possible shows their level of commitment to serving and educating the South Shore," says Jeff DeFranco, President of Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe.
Sierra Nevada College prides itself on its intimate class sizes and professionals who teach from professional experience in their field of expertise. Project Eagle takes this combination into the community college classroom and creates a seamless pathway for students to gain access to the opportunities that come with a bachelors degree.
Sierra Nevada College Tahoe is Nevada's only accredited private four-year college. With a focus on four core themes (entrepreneurial thinking, professional preparedness, liberal arts and sustainability), Sierra Nevada College is committed to using active learning and fostering a culture of competition that guides students to think on their feet, communicate persuasively and acquire the higher-order thinking skills necessary to thrive in the real world.
