Gibson Dunn's Theodore B. Olson Named to TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential List
WASHINGTON, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that TIME named Washington, D.C. partner Theodore B. Olson to the 2010 TIME 100, the magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Olson is recognized in the Thinkers category, along with David Boies for their work in challenging the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8, the California constitutional amendment that eliminates marriage rights for same-sex couples. The two were cited by TIME Magazine as the "lions of America's legal establishment" and "they've put on an extraordinary case in the federal court system ... They remind us that the ideas binding us together in our constitutional democracy are far more important than those separating us."
"Ted Olson definitely has the power to influence, by both his words and his actions," said Ken Doran, Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn. "He is one of the most compelling advocates I've ever known. We're very honored and proud to have him as our colleague."
"I am honored to be included in TIME's 100 list and especially in recognition for my work with David Boies on this particular case," said Olson, Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn's Appellate and Constitutional Law Practice Group. "The right to marry for same-sex couples is one of the most significant civil rights issues we have remaining in this country. Working on this case has been a humbling experience and one of the most gratifying representations I've handled in my entire career."
The list, now in its seventh year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world's most influential individuals. As Managing Editor Rick Stengel has said of the list in the past, "The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it's not a list of the smartest people in the world, and it's a list of the most influential people in the world. They're scientists, they're thinkers, they're philosophers, they're leaders, they're icons, they're artists, they're visionaries. These are people who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people."
The full list and related tributes appear in the May 10 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Friday, April 30. The honorees will be recognized at the TIME 100 Gala on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in New York City.
