Giant Food Alerts Customers to Voluntary Recall by Goya Foods of Frozen Goya Mamey Pulp
LANDOVER, Md., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Following a recall by Goya Foods, Inc., Giant Food LLC announced it has removed from sale frozen Goya Mamey Pulp due to the potential of salmonella contamination.
The following product was removed from sale:
- Frozen Goya Mamey Pulp, 14oz, UPC 4133109080 (all expiration dates)
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial food borne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
To date, Giant Food has received no reports of illness associates with consumption of this product. Customers who have purchased the affected products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant Food for a full refund. Consumers may call Goya Foods, Inc.
