Giannone Offers Tips for Preparing Your Home for the Holidays
Joseph Giannone Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, a leading Philadelphia home service provider, offers tips for preparing your home for holiday visitors
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph Giannone Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, a BBB A+ rated heating, cooling and plumbing company that services homeowners in the greater Philadelphia area, is offering homeowners tips on how to prepare the home for the busy holiday season and the visitors that come with it.
"Homeowners in Philadelphia are preparing their homes for the holiday season," said Joseph Giannone, owner of Joseph Giannone Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. "With family and friends visiting, you're going to have an increase in appliance use. That can put a strain on the home. We don't want a plumbing or heating malfunction to interrupt anyone's holidays – that's why we're passing along these ideas for your home."
Giannone offers these tips for homeowners expecting company this holiday season:
Check the plumbing – With the influx of holiday guests, toilets and fixtures get a lot of use. Now is the time to take care of preventive maintenance and repairs. Check your drains to be sure they are clear and ready to go. Try plunging some water into the drain before anything else. If you have a plumber's snake handy, that should clear most minor blockages. If you still can't seem to get the water flow you're looking for, you may need to call a plumber for help.
Inspect the heating – Don't let your guests feel the cold this year. Make sure your heating unit is in proper working order. Filter replacement and duct cleaning are the first steps you can take to give your heating system a boost. To get a start on duct cleaning, remove the cover on the register and vacuum out the opening. However, you don't want to go too far down with your vacuum attachment as it could cause damage to the ductwork. A clean and well-tuned heating system operates much more efficiently saving you dollars this winter.
Winterize the home – It's going to get cold and wet. Philadelphia is no stranger to inclement weather to include snow and ice. Before family and friends arrive, make sure your home is prepared for the worst. Change out air filters to keep the air inside the home fresh. Check door and window seals for air leakage and get those sealed up. Finally, make sure the outside of the home is ready by maintaining clean gutters, and have some rock salt on hand for walkways and stairs to prevent slips and falls.
Prepare your garbage disposal – Your kitchen's garbage disposal is going to get a workout this holiday season. To make sure your disposal is ready for the onslaught, it helps to know what not to put in there. The worst items for a disposal are bones, fruit pits, grease, and believe it or not, potato peels. If you are going to try to clear a blockage or retrieve a wayward fork or spoon, never put your hand in there. Turn off the disposal and use a wooden utensil or tongs to loosen or pull out the blockage.
"For the most part, home emergencies are preventable during the holidays," Giannone said. "Proper maintenance and repairs of key elements in the home will help you have a safe, happy holiday season with your friends and family."
