Getaround Expands Uber Partnership Footprint
Following rapid adoption in the San Francisco Bay Area, the two mobility companies expand program to four new cities providing residents with access to rideshare-ready cars for increased economic opportunity
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Getaround, the carsharing platform that empowers users to instantly rent and drive cars owned by people in their neighborhood, today announced the expansion of its Uber partnership program. People in Los Angeles and San Diego, and soon to be Philadelphia and Washington D.C., who want to turn their extra time into money by driving with Uber can now rent rideshare-ready cars by the hour through Getaround. Initially launched in the San Francisco Bay Area in May 2017, the program began with just a few dozen cars, and rapidly expanded to hundreds to meet growing demand.
As an introductory offer, Getaround has made the first booking day completely free for up to 12 consecutive hours, and after that, drivers pay a $5 per hour flat rate for use of the vehicle. There are no upfront fees, commitments or subscriptions, and no limit to the booking duration. Cars are also equipped with standard additions typically in ridesharing cars, such as Uber decals, phone mounts and phone chargers. Safety is important to both companies, which is why insurance is included on every trip, and Uber's 24/7 customer support is available directly through the Uber Driver app.
"We're thrilled to bring this program to four more cities as it aligns with our two-fold vision to help people earn income from their cars and to empower people to live car-free," said Sam Zaid, Co-Founder and CEO of Getaround. "With our on-demand and integrated solution, more people will now have faster and easier access to rideshare-ready cars for as little or as long as they'd like."
Through this expansion, Getaround cars will be available in parking lots throughout Los Angeles, San Diego, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The process to sign up and book is simple. Once a person successfully clears Uber's screening process and uploads their drivers' license, they can view, select and unlock a car directly through Getaround.
"With Uber and Getaround, you don't have to have a lot of free timeㄧor even own a carㄧto get on the road and start earning," said Daniel Danker, Uber's head of driver product. "It's a simple, stress-free way for anyone to make extra money without making a long-term commitment."
Unique to Getaround, all cars are equipped with the company's patented integrated hardware and software solution, Getaround Connect™. This device allows users to instantly book and unlock the car through the app, eliminating the reliance on a physical exchange of keys between owner and renter. By operating exclusively through the app and online, Getaround removes the long lines, wait times, and paperwork traditionally associated with car rental companies. This provides a fast and seamless way for those living car-free to rent a car and turn their spare time into money driving with Uber.
