Get into the Loop with NY's S.L.E. Lupus Foundation May 10 for World Lupus Awareness Day; Stay in the Loop Year-round
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Proclaims May Lupus Awareness Month
NEW YORK, May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- East side, West side, all around the town is where the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation is today, getting New Yorkers into the loop for World Lupus Awareness Day. In response to a petition from the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation outlining the critical need for greater recognition of the disease, May 2012 was proclaimed "Lupus Awareness Month" by Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York.

"This May, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation and New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs gather to recognize Lupus Awareness Month," notes the Mayor's Proclamation. "We are proud to join the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation to educate New Yorkers on the signs of lupus and raise awareness of this debilitating illness."
In that spirit, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation's message will reach the 1.5 million passing one of the world's largest billboards in the heart of Times Square at 43rd and 7th, the most-trafficked corner of the city. And in Grand Central Terminal, the cross-roads of the country, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation staff and volunteers will host an all-day exhibit to get thousands of train-riders on-board.
But the Mayor's proclamation also recognizes the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation's ongoing work throughout the city. "On behalf of all New Yorkers, I applaud the Foundation for its unwavering efforts in the fight against this disease. Together we look forward to a brighter, lupus-free future for us all."
The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation works to achieve that goal not just one day or even one month, but with science and service every day of the year, encircling the city where the organization founded the lupus movement more than 40 years ago. With an active presence in all five boroughs, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation: 1) Raises awareness of the disease; 2) Supports lupus patients with ongoing services; and 3) Funds the research that has made NYC the hub of lupus research and care throughout the world.
