McLEAN, Virginia, April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Commtouch® (NASDAQ: CTCH), a leading provider of Internet security technology and cloud-based services, today announced that NetCologne Gesellschaft für Telekommunikation mbH, one of the leading regional Internet and telecommunication service providers in Germany, is now protecting its email inboxes against spam, malware and phishing using the Commtouch On-Premise Email Security solution. It incorporates the award-winning eXpurgate technology, developed by German email security provider Eleven, which was acquired by Commtouch in 2012.

NetCologne has integrated On-Premise Email Security into its existing email infrastructure. The solution combines consistently reliable spam detection with a particularly low false positive rate, which effectively excludes the false categorization of important, individual emails to the greatest extent possible. The solution also allows NetCologne to reject spam, phishing and malware email during the transmission process. This increases customer protection against undesirable, dangerous emails and reduces the load on in-house email infrastructure.
On-Premise Email Security, including the eXpurgate technology, was developed with a focus on the needs and requirements of Internet service providers and carriers and combines high spam and malware detection and low false positive rates with unlimited scalability. It is deployed by the majority of Germany's Internet service providers, among them Deutsche Telekom/T-Online, 1&1, O2, Kabel Deutschland and freenet. Major North American service providers, including Cox and Hostway, are also using spam protection from Commtouch.
NetCologne has more than 800 employees and operates more than 550,000 email inboxes for its customers. As a regional Internet service provider, the company supplies a large area in the west of Germany with future-proof communication technology, and offers innovative Web mail solutions to private and business customers.
"The eXpurgate technology delivers NetCologne a solution that completely meets our requirements in all important points," said Thomas Henritzi, head of network engineering and design at NetCologne. "This applies to the features of the spam and malware detection applications as well as for the option of rejecting emails during the transmission process and the scalability of the solution - which is a key aspect from the point of view of an Internet service provider. Email Security On-Premise allows us to provide our customers with improved protection from spam and malware and helps us enhance customer satisfaction."
"With NetCologne, we have successfully acquired one of the largest, most important regional telecommunication and Internet providers in Germany," said Robert Rothe, Commtouch CTO and Eleven founder. "We developed our solution to meet the particularly rigorous requirements of ISPs and carriers. NetCologne's decision to deploy our solution is renewed confirmation for our strategy of optimizing our solutions for this sophisticated market in particular."
