Georgia Public Broadcasting Launches Chemistry Matters August 1
Free, Online Digital Series Funded by a Grant from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Power Foundation
ATLANTA, July 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Georgia Public Broadcasting has announced that it will launch Chemistry Matters, a free, online digital series accessible at gpb.org/chemistry-matters to teachers across the state of Georgia just in time for the 2016-2017 school year.
Chemistry Matters is made possible in part by a grant from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Power Foundation. The series supports STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) objectives by encouraging inquiry-based learning, problem solving, critical thinking, exploration and discovery. A team of certified educators designed the program to align with the latest Georgia Standards of Excellence for science.
"GPB's education division provides top-quality digital learning resources designed to reach all Georgia learners," said GPB President and CEO Teya Ryan. "Thanks to the generosity of partners like the Governor's Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Power Foundation, we've been able to produce this original series that provides educators with a powerful tool to emphasize the STEM integrated approach to learning."
Chemistry Matters consists of 12 units, each comprised of different segments that will be accessible at gpb.org/chemistry-matters. The series has downloadable resources created specifically for teachers, as well as toolkits with supporting materials and "Closer Look" videos designed to support students' individual paces of learning.
The series helps students learn important chemistry concepts while also demonstrating its real-world applications. Teachers and students will be able to follow along as the Chemistry Matters crew conducts interactive, hands-on labs and experiments in the studio and in actual Georgia classrooms. The series also features professionals in various career fields who utilize chemistry every day.
"We are committed to supporting the work done in Georgia classrooms every day to prepare students for the careers of tomorrow," said Paul Bowers, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power. "This new resource is the product of a strong collaboration with GPB that will enhance the classroom experience and enrich the STEM curriculum."
