ATLANTA, Aug. 19 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific today announced it has contributed $50,000 to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation Flood Relief Fund for southeast Louisiana flood recovery efforts. The company also will match up to $50,000 in contributions from its employees to the Georgia-Pacific Employees Assistance Fund held and managed by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. Contributions to this fund from employees of Georgia-Pacific or any other Koch company, as well as Georgia-Pacific's match, will go directly to help affected employees in the area.
Hundreds of employees from the company's Port Hudson operations have been moderately to severely impacted – some of whom have lost everything. In addition, Georgia-Pacific is aiding employees there with additional emergency supplies.
"We are deeply saddened by the devastation to the region, and particularly the impact to our Georgia-Pacific families and the Port Hudson mill community," said Jim Hannan, CEO and president. "Our thoughts and prayers are with southeast Louisiana as they begin to rebuild the community after this terrible loss. This contribution is targeted to the region where our employees live and work."
Additionally, Convoy of Hope, the company's ongoing partner for distributing Georgia-Pacific products in disaster areas, has delivered numerous truckloads of bath tissue and paper towels into the area. Convoy of Hope has plans to continue working with FEMA to expand distribution to other areas for several weeks.
Louisiana is home to more than 1,000 Georgia-Pacific employees, and another 800 employees of other Koch Industries' companies. Georgia-Pacific's Port Hudson Operations are in one of the parishes where a state of emergency has been declared by FEMA. The Port Hudson mill did not sustain damage and remains operational.
