George Evans and Oppenheimer International Growth Fund: 20 Years of Excellence
NEW YORK, March 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Friday, March 25, marked the 20th anniversary of Oppenheimer International Growth Fund (Ticker: OIGAX), a $20.9 billion fund (as of Feb. 29, 2016) managed by George Evans, CFA, since inception. Only 5 percent of all equity fund managers have achieved a 20-year tenure on a fund, according to Morningstar data.
In 2012, Robert Dunphy, CFA, joined Evans as Co-Portfolio Manager of the Fund after spending eight years as an analyst on the portfolio. Evans and Dunphy invest in well-established businesses headquartered outside of the United States that appear likely to grow at a faster pace than world GDP and may benefit from four global forces: mass affluence, new technology, restructuring, and aging. Within this framework, the portfolio managers rely on fundamental analysis to search for quality growth companies with sustainable competitive advantages and above industry revenue growth.
"While the world has changed drastically over the past two decades, George's investment philosophy remains focused on the long term," said Krishna Memani, Chief Investment Officer. "George has managed Oppenheimer International Growth Fund through 20 years of major historic events and various market environments. By maintaining focus on a company's long-term value creation ability rather than short-term price movements, he has delivered impressive long-term results."
Since inception, the Fund's A shares returned an average of 7.90 percent annually, outperforming its benchmark, the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index, by over 300 basis points per year, and ranked in the 5th percentile of its Morningstar peer group.1
"Companies can create enormous wealth when they provide value for customers, execute their strategies well, and deploy capital wisely," said George Evans, CIO, Equities, and Portfolio Manager of Oppenheimer International Growth Fund. "Long-term investing is all about identifying such companies, assessing the right price at which to buy their stock, and investing with conviction—regardless of the fickle sentiments of the moment, or the broader prospects of an industry or economy in the short term."
Among numerous accolades, Evans and Dunphy were nominated for Morningstar's 2015 International Stock Fund Manager of the Year Award.2 The Fund's Class Y shares are rated 5 stars by Morningstar among 323 Foreign Large Growth funds for the 3-, 5-, and 10-year periods ended Dec. 31, 2015.3 In addition, Class Y shares earned a 2016 Lipper Fund Award for best-in-class among 182 International Multi-Cap Growth funds for the 10-year period ended Nov. 30, 2015.4
