SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Sept. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Genome Medical today announced that it has launched a new and expanded "Understand Your Genome" (UYG) program. The new UYG program will drive increased access to genomics education and clinical genetic experts and will emphasize broader genomics education through new offerings – such as online e-learning courses – and select live events.
Genome Medical is the first and only telegenomics technology and services company focused on bringing genomic medicine to everyday care delivery. Through the company's online platform, UYG program participants will receive on-demand access to board-certified, trained genetic experts who can help them navigate their genetic journey across major areas of health and wellness. Programs include cardiovascular health, reproductive care, proactive health, cancer, pediatrics, and pharmacogenomics. Individuals will be informed about a wide range of genomic services and testing options; from genetic health screening and targeted gene panel testing to exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing. Clinical experts from Genome Medical then guide informed decisions about genetic testing and incorporate resulting information into personalized care plans.
"Illumina has done an incredible job igniting the genomics revolution and establishing a highly influential community around the advancement of genomic services and learning through the Understand Your Genome program," said Lisa Alderson, co-founder and CEO, Genome Medical. "We are thrilled to continue to progress applications of whole genome sequencing, but also improve access to a more diverse set of genomic services. UYG aligns with our ultimate aim: to enable individuals and their providers to utilize the power of genetics and genomics for improved health and well-being."
"Genome Medical's expertise in genomic services and education will help accelerate the appropriate adoption of genomics in medical care and make Understand Your Genome a highly sought-after and widely available resource," said Karen Possemato, Illumina's vice president of global marketing and communications.
Earlier this year, Genome Medical announced its new program for employer groups, featuring companies – including Illumina -- that are offering genetic education and screening services and physician-guided genetic testing to their employees. Under the expanded UYG program, employer organizations will also be able to offer genomic education for their employees as well as genomic sequencing, with a focus on the clinical utility and actionability of genetics and genomics.
This fall, Genome Medical is hosting two receptions for UYG alumni and those interested in learning about the expanded program. To find out more about these events at the American Society for Human Genetics on Oct. 16 in San Diego and the 14th Annual Personalized Medicine Conference on Nov. 13 in Boston, email [email protected].
