GenFKD Executive Director Dent Moderates All-Star Panel at Politicon
PASADENA, Calif., June 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- GenFKD Executive Director Justin Dent will lead a roundtable discussion on youth development at Politicon 2016, one of the biggest political conferences in the country.
Joining Dent on the panel is former Georgia Rep. Dr. Alveda King, a niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, actor and political activist John Ratzenberger, Jose Osuna of Homeboy Industries and Illumination Foundation CEO Paul Leon.
Dent will moderate "Transforming Our Community," a conversation on how community organizations, private-public partnerships and individuals support young adults to thrive and survive after high school.
"GenFKD is excited to lead the 'Transforming Our Community' at Politicon," said Dent. "GenFKD started to help millennials connect with the political system. Events such as Politicon help to work against the current disconnect."
"As GenFKD fights for an education system that is more inclusive of the needs of a 'new economy' and those traditionally underrepresented in it, we're excited to speak with individuals already making great strides to improve their communities and those often least served in them."
Founded in 2013 as a financial literacy organization, GenFKD is growing into an organization that is revolutionizing American higher education. Through skills-based training and student-first reforms, GenFKD is advancing a system of "new education" focused on improving post-graduate outcomes in areas of gainful employment, financial preparedness and entrepreneurial readiness.
Politicon, billed as the "Unconventional Political Convention," brings together politicians, pundits, comedians and entertainers from across the cultural spectrum for a weekend of comedy, panels, book signings, radio and TV broadcasts, debates, podcasts, interviews, film screenings, "meet and greets," and more.
GenFKD's Dent will be among notable community, national and international thought leaders such as former President Vicente Fox of Mexico, James Carville, Ann Coulter, Wendy Davis, former Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. Barbara Boxer, Upright Citizens Brigade, Eugene Robinson, Dinesh D'Souza, Lizz Winstead, Jon Ronson, Paul Begala among many others at the nonpartisan event. Nearly 2,000 registrants attended last year's event.
Politicon will be held June 25-26 at the Pasadena Convention Center. The GenFKD session takes place on Sunday, June 26, at 1 p.m. PDT in the Hamilton Room.
