BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Clean water is something many of us take for granted, yet 663 million people around the world are without access to the most vital resource on the planet. Genexa, the first USDA Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified medicine and the Thirst Project, the world's largest youth water organization, are teaming up to provide clean water to rural areas around the world. The partnership began on March 1, 2018.
Genexa, founded with the purpose of creating healthier medicines, is committed to helping the world in other ways as well. Genexa understands first hand that without clean water, the medicines Genexa makes could not be pure. Upon learning that just 50 cents a day can provide clean water to an individual for an entire year, Genexa, through its Spread the Health™ initiative, decided to donate a portion of sales from every Genexa product sold to support clean water projects around the world. The company will also be the sole funder of its first clean water project. This project is anticipated to provide 300-500 people in El Salvador with access to clean water.
Thirst Project, launched in 2009 with the mission to end the global water crisis, has raised $8,800,000 since launching. To date, the nonprofit has provided clean water to 13 countries that directly helped 330,000 people and counting. Clean water has the power to drastically change the lives of the people living in poverty-stricken rural areas. Educating and bringing awareness to the global water crisis can help save millions of lives.
"The child mortality rate can drop by 90 percent overnight when provided with access to clean water. Learning this fact and what an impact our company could have on the lives of these children made this partnership a no-brainer––Genexa needed to support the water movement," said David Johnson, CEO and co-founder of Genexa. "We use our business as a force for good, and the Thirst Project emulates the exact values our company was founded upon."
Providing clean water to rural villages is directly correlated with a drop in disease rates across communities. Education becomes more feasible when children aren't forced to travel six to eight hours in search of clean water. Economic growth becomes more feasible when women aren't tasked with collecting water, freeing them to explore work opportunities.
"Waterborne diseases kill more children than AIDS, malaria, and world violence combined. Partnering with Genexa is an exciting opportunity and allows us to continue our mission, which is to end the global water crisis," said Seth Maxwell, CEO and co-founder of Thirst Project.
