Generex / Antigen Express to Participate in 2014 BIO-Europe® Annual International Partnering Conference
WORCESTER, Mass. and TORONTO, Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Generex Biotechnology Corporation (www.generex.com) (OTCBB: GNBT) today announced that the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Antigen Express, Inc. (www.antigenexpress.com), will be participating in the 2014 BIO-Europe® Annual International Partnering Conference being held November 3-5 in Frankfurt, Germany.
BIO-Europe® is Europe's largest partnering conference serving the global biotechnology industry. The conference annually attracts leading dealmakers from biotech, pharma, and finance along with the most exciting emerging companies. It is regarded as a "must attend" event for the biotech industry.
Antigen Express has pioneered a platform technology for activating a key component of the immune system in a specific and non-toxic manner. In particular, the technology allows for the generation of a robust and antigen-specific CD4+ T cells response using virtually any protein one desires to elicit an immune response against. This cell type has been shown to be critical in generating both cellular and antibody responses to a novel pathogen. Cellular responses are important in generating an effective immunological response to cancer while antibody responses comprise the front line defense against infectious agents.
Antigen Express is looking forward to company-to-company partnership meetings at BIO-Europe® in respect of the Company's proprietary immunotherapeutic platform technologies, including its AE37 breast cancer vaccine, which has shown promising clinical trial results trending to reduction in relapse rates for patients with low HER2 expression (patients not eligible for treatment with Herceptin), particularly triple negative patients. Further, the Company has recently issued a white paper on the applicability of the Antigen Express technology platform for development of a vaccine against Ebola.
A profile of Antigen Express is available on the partnering360® website, the network for dealmakers in the life sciences industry. That profile is also available on the Generex and Antigen Express websites.
About Generex Biotechnology Corporation
Generex is engaged in the research, development, and commercialization of drug delivery systems and technologies. Generex has developed a proprietary platform technology for the delivery of drugs into the human body through the oral cavity (with no deposit in the lungs). The Company's proprietary liquid formulations allow drugs typically administered by injection to be absorbed into the body by the lining of the inner mouth using the Company's proprietary RapidMist™ device. Antigen Express, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Generex. The core platform technologies of Antigen Express comprise immunotherapeutic vaccines for the treatment of malignant, infectious, allergic, and autoimmune diseases. Antigen Express has pioneered the use of specific CD4+ T-helper stimulation technologies in immunotherapy. One focuses on modification of peptides with Ii-Key to increase potency, while a second relies on inhibition of expression of the Ii protein. Antigen Express scientists, and others, have shown clearly that suppression of expression of the Ii protein in cancer cells allows for potent stimulation of T-helper cells and prevents the further growth of cancer cells.
