BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Generali Global Assistance ("the Company"), a leader in the assistance industry since its founding in 1983, part of the multinational Generali Group, and the developer of a proprietary and innovative identity and digital protection platform, today announced its support of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) this October through a variety of initiatives with the National Cyber Security Alliance and other organizations. NCSAM is dedicated to educating all online users and companies on the need to be safer and more secure online in today's highly connected world.
As a champion of NCSAM, Generali Global Assistance will launch a variety of initiatives throughout October, including offering their "ScamAssist" product to all consumers for the month of October. ScamAssist is a consumer service where resolution experts research suspect solicitations sent in by consumers and provide case-by-case assessments on the likelihood of it being a scam. Consumer cases opened in October will be serviced until closed, even if that extends past the month. Any consumer can utilize ScamAssist by calling the Company's resolution team at (866) 311-1488 and mentioning "NCSA2018."
Generali Global Assistance will also be organizing several NCSAM events and volunteer activities throughout the month. The Company will present to a local retirement community on cybersecurity risks seniors face and provide identity protection tips and resources. In addition, the Company will be hosting an online webinar with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) on Monday, October 22, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm EDT, on the topic of "Taking Care of Your Multi-Generational Workforce and Their Data – Perspectives from IT and HR," educating IT and HR professionals on the need for solutions to safeguard their organizations' infrastructure and employees. These events present opportunities to discuss critical cyber and identity theft related issues with consumers, as well as associations for organizational leaders such as SHRM. Generali Global Assistance will continue to advocate for identity protection best practices during these events to promote a more secure world for consumers and businesses.
Paige Schaffer, President and COO of Generali Global Assistance's Identity and Digital Protection Services Global Unit, commented on today's news, "As the number of connected devices – such as smart home appliances, wearable devices, autonomous cars, and office equipment – grows, so does consumers' and organizations' vulnerability to hackers and risk for identity theft. In today's highly connected world, individuals and companies must be armed with the right information in order to combat these risks, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to join with other organizations nationwide in supporting NCSAM and sharing our insights and expertise on cyber and identity protection."
Other educational initiatives include the publication of a cyber literacy (glossary of terms) infographic expanding consumers' and organizations' understanding of cyberspace, as well as being a featured guest in the NCSA's weekly Twitter chats for the month of October. On the chats, the Company will engage with industry thought leaders on Twitter to discuss cyber issues and provide educational resources to the public.
Ms. Schaffer concluded, "As security and data breaches become the new norm in today's world and identity theft continues to rise, it is critical that everyone – businesses and consumers – stay informed on their role and responsibilities in preventing and mitigating the effects of identity theft and fraud. Generali Global Assistance and the National Cyber Security Alliance share a deep commitment to cybersecurity, and we look forward to participating in NCSAM and leading the charge for a safer internet and a more secure society."
