General Dynamics Honored With DoD Value Engineering Achievement Award for Outstanding Contractor
FAIRFAX, Va., June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today received the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) Value Engineering Achievement Award for Outstanding Contractor in its support to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The company was honored at a ceremony on June 22nd at the Pentagon hosted by Nicholas M. Torelli, Jr., Director for Mission Assurance within the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering.
The General Dynamics team was recognized for its development of an enhanced procedure to process high-demand customer orders and route those orders to the least expensive buying program. Overall, the project diverted 17,000 orders and saved customers $3.9 million during fiscal year 2010. Additional benefits from the procedure include a reduction of vendor delivery backlog and elimination of several administrative ordering fees.
Since 1993, General Dynamics has been providing information engineering and professional services to the DLA Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) Program Office in support of procurement, catalogue management and related supply chain operations. The company provides life-cycle support services that enable the medical military supply chain to efficiently connect manufacturers and suppliers of medical materials to the customers who use the materials. The 31-person team based at the Navy Support Activity, Philadelphia, Penn., continuously performs the technical functions to meet DLA mission requirements.
