General Dynamics Awarded $23 Million to Support Submarine Repair Work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard
GROTON, Conn., Sept. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $23 million work order by the U.S. Navy to support submarine repair work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) in Virginia. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
The work order is part of a Basic Ordering Agreement awarded to Electric Boat in September 2010 to support U.S. Navy submarine repair work.
Under this work order, about 880 Electric Boat trades employees will be assigned to maintenance activities on USS Newport News (SSN-750) and USS West Virginia (SSBN-736).
Scheduled for completion by September 2012, the work will engage elements of Electric Boat's operations and support organization in Groton, which comprises more than 4,100 employees with proven skills and capabilities in final assembly, test and life-cycle support.
