GENCO Partners with McGraw-Hill Education to Manage Ohio Distribution Centers
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In an agreement with McGraw-Hill Education, GENCO, the leader in product lifecycle logistics®, is providing order fulfillment and distribution services at a trio of distribution centers.
GENCO assumed operation of three McGraw-Hill Education facilities in Groveport, Gahanna and Ashland, Ohio in April 2014. Services provided include receiving, order picking, replenishment, shipping and returns processing. The distribution centers take up more than 1.8 million square feet and employ nearly 500 teammates, or employees.
"The changing education industry, and in particular McGraw-Hill Education's business, challenged us to think 'outside the box' in helping the customer," says David Gilley, senior vice president of GENCO's Consumer & Industrial Logistics business unit. "We worked very closely with McGraw-Hill Education to develop an optimal solution to meet their short-term needs and to ensure they were ready for the landscape in the next few years in order to maintain their status as a leader in the education space."
Among the product orders fulfilled and distributed are hardbound and softbound books, book libraries, DVDs and CDs, science and math kits that include materials for classes, single-printed pages and catalogs. Each facility operates Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to stagger or add shifts during peak demand periods.
"It's more important than ever to make sure that we're delivering to all customer expectations—in both print and digital—but adapt our physical operations to our increasingly digital demand," says Ken Brooks, senior vice president, supply chain management, at McGraw-Hill Education. "We view our partnership with GENCO as positioning us strongly for the future and helping to optimize our North American distribution operations."
