Geisinger to present "A Century of Transformation and Innovation" Centennial Symposia
DANVILLE, Pa., Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Geisinger Health System presents "A Century of Transformation and Innovation" Centennial Symposia, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 24 and 25, on the Geisinger Medical Center campus.
The invitation-only, two-day event celebrates Geisinger's history as a health care innovator and provides an opportunity to set a health care agenda for the future. The Symposia will focus on critical health topics and showcase industry experts, state and local leaders, and Geisinger care providers.
The nation's leading voices on health care innovation will serve as keynote speakers on Sept. 25. Atul Gawande, M.D., M.P.H., surgeon, best-selling author and public health researcher, will discuss the impact that providing high quality care has on patients. Donald M. Berwick, former administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and founding chief executive officer, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, will speak on provider and payment reform. Mark B. McClellan, M.D., PhD, director of Health Care Innovation and Value Initiative at the Brookings Institution and former administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and former U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner, will discuss value and patient care.
Geisinger President and CEO David Feinberg, M.D., MBA, will provide the opening and closing remarks both days and will also participate in a panel discussion on patient-focused health care on Sept. 25. Susan Dentzer, senior policy advisor to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and a former health correspondent on the "News Hour with Jim Lehrer" on PBS, will moderate panel discussions throughout the Symposia.
Glenn D. Steele, Jr., M.D., PhD, chairman of xG Health Solutions and former Geisinger president and CEO, will participate in the panel sessions and also sign copies of his new book, "Reinventing Health Care: The Geisinger Health System 2001-2015," both days.
The Sept. 24th sessions will highlight how Geisinger has shaped health care in its first 100 years and how it will continue its innovative spirit moving forward. Speakers will include Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Karen Murphy, R.N., PhD, as well as state lawmakers, university presidents and chamber of commerce leaders from throughout the region.
Events on Sept. 25 will focus on the national health care landscape. In addition to the aforementioned industry leaders, Geisinger executives will deliver talks on meeting the nation's evolving health care needs.
