G.D.S. Express Installs Rand McNally TND™ 760 in All Company Trucks
Company Seeks to Increase Operational Efficiency via EOBRs
SKOKIE, Ill., Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- After a year-long study of mobile fleet management systems, G.D.S. Express, Inc. (GDS) is installing Rand McNally's TND™ 760 in all company trucks, Rand McNally announced. GDS, which operates more than 120 trucks, is a full-service, truckload carrier based in Akron, Ohio focused on the retail goods and apparel industries.
GDS chose the Rand McNally solution based on the TND™ 760's expansive feature set, ease of use, and affordability. The carrier also noted that drivers have been very receptive to the devices, particularly the Rand McNally navigation.
In addition to the TND™ 760, GDS also selected Rand McNally's IntelliRoute® software for the company's routing and mileage transactions. Both the TND™ 760 in-cab units and the back-office IntelliRoute® software integrate with GDS's existing transportation management system, McLeod LoadMaster software. The use of Rand McNally products throughout GDS' planning system ensures matching and more accurate routing and mileage calculations.
"Rand McNally's TND™ 760 device will enable our operation to become much more efficient, reducing the phone calls between drivers and dispatch. The integration capabilities with our McLeod software means that our dispatchers can send out the plan and the truck-specific routes to each driver automatically, which will allow us to grow our operations without adding personnel, and better manage our customer communications," said J.P. Delaney, President of GDS. "Our drivers are enthusiastic about the Rand McNally navigation, enabling us to get the most out of our technology investment."
Delaney also shared that GDS intends to use the EOBR features of the TND™ 760 for Hours of Service logging, and to use the engine diagnostics to assist with safety and maintenance planning.
GDS has rolled out the TND™ 760 devices more rapidly than originally planned. Beyond their company trucks and drivers, the carrier also is finding strong interest in the system from its owner-operator drivers.
