ATLANTA, March 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive year, GDF SUEZ Energy Resources, the retail energy business of GDF SUEZ Energy North America, will supply renewable energy certificates (RECs) to the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for the 2011 Globalcon Conference & Expo.

The RECs, which will be Green-e® Energy Certified, will match the electricity consumed at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia where the two-day expo will be held March 30-31. A REC represents the environmental attributes of electricity generated from wind, solar, or other renewable power facilities. Organizations may use RECs to offset their indirect greenhouse gas emissions and help support the operation and development of domestic sources of cleaner, renewable energy.
"We share the Association of Energy Engineers' commitment to using clean, renewable energy and greatly appreciate the opportunity to once again support their efforts," said Robert Wilson, President and CEO for GDF SUEZ Energy Resources. "This not only reinforces our relationship with the AEE and the Globalcon Expo, but also underscores our collective focus on environmental responsibility."
Globalcon 2011 is aimed at decision-makers from business, industry, and government who are seeking energy solutions that assure a safe, secure power supply and effective management of costs. Attendees can visit the GDF SUEZ Energy Resources booth, #412, to see how the company can assist them with those concerns, including strategies for mitigating electricity market risk, managing demand and consumption, and maximizing the opportunities of a competitive marketplace.
"Our continuing use of renewable energy certificates further strengthens AEE's message that sustainable practices are critical to businesses, energy managers, and energy engineers nationwide," said AEE Executive Director Albert Thumann. "Globally, GDF SUEZ is a leader in renewable energy, and we are proud that they will be part of Globalcon 2011."
GDF SUEZ Energy North America manages 25 renewable facilities in wind, biomass, and hydro, with a generation capacity of 589 MW. Globally, nearly 40 percent of all of GDF SUEZ's electric generation capacity produces no carbon dioxide emissions, and another 50 percent produces relatively little in comparison with many other electric generation technologies.
