HOUSTON, Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA, one of the largest retail electric providers in the United States, will again join Cox Media Group to sponsor the 2011 Cox Radio Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon benefiting research and treatment advances at Texas Children's Cancer Center aimed at curing and preventing pediatric cancer. The two-day event will also support patient care and education at Texas Children's Cancer Center – the largest pediatric hematology and oncology center in the nation.
From 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, The Eagle 107.5 FM and 106.9 FM will broadcast live from Texas Children's Cancer Center. Listeners can make donations or share personal stories by calling a designated pledge line at 1-888-786-8811 or visiting www.curekidscancer.texaschildrens.org.
Through generous contributions of residents throughout the greater Houston area in 2010, last year's Radiothon raised nearly $650,000 in support of this important cause.
"We're pleased to once again participate in this unique opportunity for Houstonians to rally in the quest to eradicate pediatric cancer," said Robert Wilson, President and CEO of GDF SUEZ Energy Resources. "Sponsoring this event underscores our commitment to children's health and education. It is important for us to help raise awareness – and assist with solutions when we can – for key issues impacting our community."
Dr. David Poplack, director of Texas Children's Cancer Center, added, "We're proud to have the backing of an industry leader like GDF SUEZ Energy Resources. Together with the support of Cox Radio, we hope to exceed the amounts raised in years past and touch even more lives impacted by the devastating cancers affecting our patients."
