GCR Inc. and the Houston Airport System (HAS) launch Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks at George Bush Intercontinental Airport
NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To improve the efficiency of processing arriving U.S. and Canadian international air travelers through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) process, GCR Inc.'s new Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks were installed January 6 at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Using a 22" LCD touchscreen, the APC Kiosks collect passenger's passport and flight information, declaration data, take their photograph, scan fingerprints and issue a receipt. The passenger proceeds with their passport and receipt to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer for final verification. No previous registration is required to use the APC Kiosks.
The Houston Airport System (HAS) contracted with GCR to develop the kiosk solution and obtain CBP approval. GCR was selected as the new provider of professional IT services for the HAS in 2013 and the APC Kiosk is one of over 30 IT projects being delivered by GCR. "The development of the APC Kiosk solution was a true partnership between HAS and GCR, and we worked collaboratively to leverage technology to improve passenger customer service," said Tim Walsh, Director of Aviation Services for GCR.
GCR is one of the first companies to implement a kiosk solution for airports in the U.S. The APC Kiosk's passport control software and its sleek, modern-looking exterior were developed as a joint venture between GCR Inc. and the Houston Airports System. The partnership is marketing the APC Kiosks to other airports. APC Kiosks are constructed with commercial-grade durable materials and can be customized with each airport's unique logo and color scheme. Overhead digital signage can be added to the top of each kiosk to offer additional information or marketing opportunities for arriving international passengers.
GCR's APC Kiosks are available through the General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule 70 procurement contract, which provides favorable pricing, expedited ordering, and quick delivery. The GSA Schedule 70 purchasing process is very efficient for any federal, state, or local organization.
