SEATTLE, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- gatheredtable, an online consumer software service dedicated to making homemade meals easier with customized weekly menus and grocery lists (also available on the companion app for Apple devices), is now out of beta, and has launched its first partnership with grocery-delivery service Peapod. In its beta phase, customers surveyed said that they saved more than two hours a week and that gatheredtable reduced stress by over 50 per cent. New gatheredtable customers who sign up now will enjoy their first six months of membership free (the software service is priced at just $10/month after that).
gatheredtable was founded by Mary Egan, who previously led Global Strategy and Corporate Development for Starbucks, supporting CEO and Chairman Howard Schultz and his leadership team during a period of rapid growth in which the stock price more than doubled. Egan, a mother of three who has spent her professional career in high intensity roles (she was previously a managing director at The Boston Consulting Group), found planning weekly family meals unnecessarily time consuming, and knew that there was a way to create an intelligent algorithm that could do it for her according to her preferences. She founded gatheredtable knowing that there were many others like her who could use it to save time and money, reduce stress, and nourish their health—as well as their connections with family and friends.
Upon signing up at gatheredtable, users input their information and preferences—household profile (number of adults and children), how many nights per week they'd like to cook, primary household diet (omnivore, kosher, paleo, pescetarian, vegan, etc.)—and have the option of using gatheredtable's easy system to input their own recipes or choosing to use recipes from the curated gatheredtable collection, all of which have been tested and approved by gatheredtable. Users can also follow each other and copy recipes from each other's libraries.
Once the short signup process is finished, each week gatheredtable generates a custom menu, combining users' own recipes with personalized, simple, seasonal suggestions. Users can make any edits they'd like to the menu, and it's accompanied by gatheredtable's smart grocery list, which updates real-time, combining ingredients across recipes and removing from the shopping list items known to be already in customers' pantries. Customers can use the smart grocery list to simplify their in-store shopping experience.
Starting today, gatheredtable offers integrated delivery with Peapod, enabling users to get everything on their grocery list delivered. Peapod – an Ahold USA company – is the country's leading Internet grocer, serving 24 U.S. markets throughout Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin. Founded in 1989 as a smart shopping option for busy households, Peapod has delivered more than 29 million grocery orders.
Although Peapod is the first of gatheredtable's large-scale integrated grocery delivery partnerships to go live, several others are in the works: by the first quarter of 2015, gatheredtable will offer integrated delivery in 20 of the top 25 metropolitan areas in the United States.
