Gateway Rehab receives grant from PCCD to underwrite its drug-free workplace education and training program
PITTSBURGH, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Gateway Rehab recently received a $176k grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to underwrite its drug-free workplace education and training program for businesses and organizations within southwestern Pennsylvania.
Under the program title of Work Drug-Free, Gateway Rehab will educate businesses and labor groups, at no cost to them, about substance abuse in the workplace. Program goals are: (1) to enlist business and labor communities as partners in the effort to reduce substance abuse in the workplace; (2) to help employers protect their bottom lines from substance abuse in the workplace, and; (3) to educate employees about their company's position on substance abuse in the workplace, the dangers of alcohol and drug use to themselves and their families, and to encourage those with problems to seek help.
"Gateway Rehab has been providing drug free workplace training for the last 10 years," said David Blenk, executive vice president, Corporate Planning and Business Development for Gateway Rehab. "However, receiving this grant from PCCD will now allow us to expand and enhance our training program while broadening our collaborative efforts with private businesses."
Industries with some of the highest rates of illicit drug use include transportation, construction, food service, arts and entertainment, and retail. But while Gateway Rehab's program is applicable to any industry, priority will be given to transportation and construction-related organizations that have specific mandates to comply with federal drug-free workplace regulations. Businesses and labor groups located in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Westmoreland and Washington counties are eligible to participate in the training program.
