Gateway Rehab CEO Kenneth S. Ramsey Receives NAATP's Bradley Award
Honor Recognizes Life Time Achievement in Treatment of Addiction
PITTSBURGH, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kenneth S. Ramsey, PhD, President and CEO of Gateway Rehabilitation Center, is the 2013 recipient of the Nelson J. Bradley Life Time Achievement Award, presented by the National Association of Addiction Treatment Professionals (NAATP). The award was given today at the NAATP's annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.
The Bradley Award recognizes the life-long achievements of individuals and exists to preserve the memory of the many contributions to modern addiction treatment that Nelson J. Bradley, MD, so generously shared with the addiction treatment field, according to the NAATP.
Dr. Bradley received the NAATP's first outstanding achievement award for his participation and leadership activities in Minnesota that resulted in a multi-disciplinary approach to treating persons with alcoholism and the recognition of alcoholism as a treatable disease. Through his early efforts treatment models were developed which have been modified, but are still in place today. Shortly after presenting Dr. Bradley with this award, he died and the award was named in his honor.
Dr. Ramsey is the second executive from Gateway Rehab to receive the Bradley Award. In 2002, Dr. Abraham Twerski, MD, was its recipient. Among other winners are the late President Gerald R. Ford and Mrs. Betty Ford, as well as noted physicians, politicians and researchers.
As the CEO of Gateway Rehab for more than 36 years, Dr. Ramsey has overseen an impressive transition of a company from a modest operation into an internationally recognized drug and alcohol treatment center. More importantly, Dr. Ramsey has been responsible for bringing the problem of substance abuse to the forefront of public awareness. He will retire on July 1.
