Dr. Edwards is well known in the Pittsburgh medical community. In fall 2015, she was nominated as finalist for a Jefferson Award for excellence in health care volunteerism, which she will officially receive this May at the Jefferson Awards Gala. Dr. Edwards embraces diversity and inclusion initiatives as a mentor to the Gateway Medical Society's Journey to Medicine Program for young African American medical students. In 2014, Dr. Edwards was named Physician of the Year for Gateway Medical Society, which is a component of the National Medical Association to eliminate ethnic and racial disparities in all facets of healthcare in southwestern, Pennsylvania. Dr. Edwards has been past president of the Gateway Medical Society and remains very active as the current Program Chairman, with emphasis on community symposium and mentorship for African American males to go to college, and hopefully medical school. Dr. Edwards is also a member of the National Medical Association House of Delegates.

Dr. Edwards is board certified in Internal Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh, and received her medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She then completed her medical school training with a residency in internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Edwards is also skilled in executive administration and has a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee with a focus on Six Sigma processes. She spent many years in private practice with Century III Medical Associates, a Gateway Health provider located in the South Hills. She was an active member of the Jefferson Regional medical staff where she chaired the Internal Medicine Department.
