Gateway Foundation to Host Open House Events Across Illinois in Honor of National Recovery Month in September
Gateway Foundation opens doors to help close gap between addiction and entering treatment
CHICAGO, Sept 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly one in 10 Americans aged 12 or older needed treatment for drug or alcohol abuse in 2009, yet a mere 11 percent of those who needed treatment—received it at a specialty facility. To help raise awareness of treatment options available to adults and adolescents for alcohol and drug abuse, Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment, the largest provider of substance abuse treatment in Illinois, will be hosting open house events at Gateway treatment centers located throughout Illinois during September 2011 in support of SAMHSA's National Recovery Month.
Also in recognition of the mission of Recovery Month, Gateway Foundation will be conducting complimentary training workshops for more than 225 healthcare, education and mental health professionals throughout the state to help increase understanding of the relationship between substance abuse and mental health disorders and the appropriate treatment to achieve recovery.
Presented by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), the goal of Recovery Month is to increase understanding of mental and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to achieve recovery, and to help people recognize and seek assistance for these health conditions with the same urgency as any other health condition.
