Gastric Sleeve Teaches Life Altering Lessons for Nicole Jones
Dr. Feiz's newest patient ambassador credits her weight loss to a realistic mindset
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Like many who have received a gastric sleeve surgery in Beverly Hills and throughout Southern California from Dr. Michael Feiz, Nicole Jones has achieved what previously seemed like an impossible dream: her ideal goal weight. Losing every extra pound she had to lose seemed unlikely when Nicole first found herself heading to the offices of bariatric surgeon Dr. Feiz in 2012. Nevertheless, she had come to a stark realization: weighing 220 pounds at 5' 5", her prior serious efforts at weight loss had only backfired as each attempt at weight loss was followed by regaining all of her prior weight, plus a small bonus.
"I was going to be turning 30 in less than six months. I felt like I needed to make a drastic life choice," Nicole said. She selected Dr. Feiz after researching the noted surgeon and being sure that a doctor with his set of skills would keep any risks of weight loss surgery to an absolute minimum, while also ensuring a successful outcome. Known for his proficiency at gastric sleeve and lap band in Los Angeles and all of Southern California, Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S., has achieved outstanding results with countless patients.
Nicole's choice paid off. To her astonishment, over the course of more than a year her dress size dropped from 18 to a 4. "I would have been happy with an 8, but I just kind of soared right past it." By the time she was done, she had lost all 90 of the pounds above her goal weight.
Nicole believes that the gastric sleeve procedure actually helped educate her when it came to her relationship with food. "Instead of eating three huge meals a day, you eat five or six much smaller ones. The surgery also taught me to eat more slowly instead of inhaling it. When you eat more slowly, you chew your food more thoroughly and you digest it better. You can't eat as much, so you have to make wiser food choices," she said.
When asked why she thinks she's had such success with her weight loss following her gastric sleeve, she is very clear in crediting her overall mindset. "I went into the procedure knowing that it was going to be life changing and I wasn't going to do anything the same. Afterwards, I found I didn't desire food any more in the same way; I only eat food now because of the nourishment that my body requires."
While Nicole's new utilitarian approach to nutrition might be unusual in our cuisine-obsessed culture, it has paid great dividends in her personal life. She says she is much more energetic and has been able to join her hiking enthusiast husband on long treks which she previously was forced to avoid. It's also helped her pastime as an amateur photographer. "Sometimes, in order to get the best shot of an area, you have to walk quite a long way to make it to the best possible vantage point."
Still, those changes pale next to another option that the loss of 90 pounds has opened for Nicole. "I decided that I wanted to have children. Before, I kind of counted it out. I think I can handle it now."
