"Turning on the gas and serving our first customer is the result of all the hard work by our employees and contractors and the support of the community. This is a major milestone because we can now start helping businesses and homeowners lower their heating costs. We're proud to deliver on our promise to serve the city of Augusta, and it's just the beginning of our plans to serve the entire Kennebec Valley and beyond," said Mike Minkos, president of Summit Natural Gas of Maine.
The city of Augusta contracted with Summit Natural Gas of Maine in September to reduce energy costs at 17 city buildings including City Center, fire stations, the Augusta Civic Center and six schools, including Cony High School. Switching to natural gas service is expected to save Augusta $641,464 annually.
More than 1,600 business and residential customers across the Kennebec Valley region have already signed contracts with Summit to save on their heating costs.
