Gary McCollum, Cox VA SVP & GM, Honored With NAACP 2010 Community Service Award
Awards Presentation Occurs Friday, Oct 29 in Virginia Beach NAACP recognizes community service efforts of Gary McCollum
CHESAPEAKE, Va., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary McCollum, Cox Virginia Senior Vice President & GM, will receive the "Community Service Award" at the Virginia Beach NAACP 2010 Freedom Fund Banquet. The event will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Westin Hotel Town Center in Virginia Beach.
According to NAACP officials, McCollum has received this award as a result of his efforts to unite the community through service. McCollum has helped to forward the ideals behind the banquet's theme: One Nation, One Dream, United.
"It's an honor to be recognized for my contributions to the Hampton Roads community," said McCollum.
McCollum has earned several awards as a result of his leadership and philanthropy in the community. In 2008, CableFAX named McCollum one of the "Most Influential Minorities in Cable." He also has been awarded the Community Leadership Award from the Northern Virginia Community Foundation. He has received the Corporate Trail Blazer Award from the Fairfax County NAACP. He is currently a major in the U.S. Army Reserves and has served as a military intelligence officer and a member of the elite U.S. Army Rangers. Born in a housing project in Richmond, Va., McCollum was the first in his family to graduate from college.
