WASHINGTON, May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Journalist and historian Garrett M. Graff spent four years digging through presidential libraries and examining recently declassified military and government documents to write what he thought would be a fun history of how the United States government planned for Armageddon during the Cold War. As the title suggests, however, his findings were far more sinister.
Graff will share his latest book, Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself – While the Rest of Us Die, at a National Press Club Headliners Event at 6:30 p.m. on May 22.
The book gets its name from Raven Rock, the Pennsylvania bunker prepared for top military officials and used only once – on and after Sept. 11, 2001. Raven Rock chronicles the U.S. government's decades-long effort to develop a comprehensive action plan in the event of a catastrophic attack on American soil. From the dawn of the nuclear era through the War on Terror, this special multibillion-dollar government task force sought to determine the activities and processes that would allow the government to continue its essential operations following a nuclear attack – and even what totems of American culture should be saved.
This event will feature a discussion with the author, an audience question-and-answer session, and a book signing. Tickets are $5 for Press Club members and $10 for the public. To purchase tickets and copies of the book, please click here. Books will also be available for purchase at the event, no outside books or memorabilia are permitted.
