Garmatex Launches Revolutionary Cotton Substitute at the 2015 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market
VANCOUVER, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Garmatex Technologies, Inc. ("Garmatex"), an industry disrupting inventor and supplier of scientifically-engineered performance fabrics, today announces the launch of its revolutionary fabric, Kottinu™, at The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market from January 21 to 24, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kottinu™ is a better performing, highly comfortable and more sustainable alternative to cotton that provides wearers with advanced moisture management and odor and bacterial control.

Doug Thom, Chief Innovation Officer at Garmatex, developed Kottinu™ as a solution to help his father get a better nights rest, while suffering from cancer medication side effects that left him sweating throughout the night. This was all the motivation Doug needed to come up with an alternative – a performance fabric that felt exactly like cotton pajamas and had the ability to keep his father cool and dry so he could sleep through the night.
Garmatex's Kottinu™ technology is created at the filament level which allows it to be custom designed as a knit or a woven. Kottinu™ feels like soft cotton, but wicks like an athletic performance fabric without the inherent problems of pilling, normally associated with brushed man-made fibers.
"We are looking forward to introducing Kottinu™ fabric to the outdoor apparel industry," says Garmatex's CEO, Martin Doane. "Every day we see the largest brands in outdoor apparel producing garments that are increasingly defined by advances in technology. Kottinu™ is the logical next-step in this fabric evolution tailored for an industry that demands maximum comfort, functionality and performance."
Kottinu™ can be engineered to create base layer, mid-layer garments and jacket linings that are ideal for keeping the outdoor adventurer dry and warm while outside. Kottinu™ can be constructed for a number of non-apparel applications including, sleeping bags, quick-dry anti-microbial socks and canvas materials. Because Kottinu™ maintains color sharpness and lasts up to six times longer than regular cotton, it is able to considerably extend the life cycle of a garment. When combined with Garmatex's 100% natural anti-microbial technology Bact-Out®, Kottinu™ garments can reduce the bacterial that cause odors – keeping the outdoor adventurer fresh and odor free.
Clothing containing Kottinu™ will be available in stores throughout the US and Canada beginning in spring 2015.
