Gannett's W*USA-TV Partners with McGraw-Hill's Platts to Provide Unique Sunday Television Program on U.S. Energy Policy
WASHINGTON, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Platts, the world's leading source of information and intelligence on energy and related commodities and a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), and W*USA-TV, the Washington, D.C., CBS affiliate and flagship television station of Gannett Co. (NYSE: GCI), announced today that their new weekly TV program, "Platts Energy Week," concentrating on U.S. energy policy issues, will debut on Sunday, March 28.
"We are excited about bringing our 100 years' experience in energy reporting to the broadcast arena," said Larry Neal, president of Platts. "By combining our expertise in energy policy coverage with W*USA's reputation and reach in the nation's capital, we are creating a new forum for discussion and debate on the energy issues that drive the nation's economy. We look forward to producing a top-notch weekly program that serves the information needs of U.S. policymakers, the Washington business community and the public at large."
"Platts Energy Week" will join W*USA TV's Sunday Power Block lineup of respected news and information programming, including CBS Sunday Morning, Face the Nation, This Week In Defense News, and The McLaughlin Group. The 30-minute program will air at 8 a.m. Eastern time on Sunday mornings on W*USA TV and will also be available online on www.plattsenergyweektv.com.
Hosted by Platts Editorial Director for U.S. Energy Policy Bill Loveless, who has been the long-time chief editor of Inside Energy and brings nearly three decades of energy journalism experience to the anchor chair, "Platts Energy Week" will follow an interview format featuring guests from the Obama administration, Congress, government agencies, think tanks, the investment community and the energy industry. While the program will be U.S. focused and produced in Washington, it will reflect the global vantage point of Platts, whose correspondents are stationed in such major capitals as London, Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo and Moscow.
"We are thrilled with this joint partnership between W*USA TV and Platts," said Allan Horlick, W*USA TV president and general manager. "We've entered a period of unprecedented interest in all things energy, suggesting the time is right for a dynamic weekly news program that will delve into the critical policy and outlook factors affecting our daily energy environment."
On Sunday's debut program at 8:00 a.m. ET, host Bill Loveless will explore what's ahead for climate legislation in a health care-weary negotiation environment with Bennett Johnston, retired chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and former Louisiana Senator, and Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers. Ms. Rogers will share her organization's grassroots efforts to bring awareness to global warming through the 40th Earth Day anniversary celebrations in April. Also appearing with Bill, will be Steven Nadel, executive director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
