Partnership Provides The Weinstein Company Exclusive Access To Develop Scripted And Unscripted Projects From Gannett's Expansive Media Library As Well As Retain Distribution Rights For Those Titles
NEW YORK, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gannett Co., Inc. and The Weinstein Company (TWC) have entered into a unique first look development deal offering TWC access to the extraordinary resources of Gannett and its powerful network of broadcast, digital, mobile and publishing assets. This unprecedented first look deal will allow the production studio and distributor to develop multiplatform projects. The deal provides opportunities to elevate on a national and international basis, editorial that appears across Gannett's vast network of trusted brands, including the iconic and award-winning USA TODAY. Gannett has operations in more than 100 markets across the country, generating stories of interest to consumers. Combined, those brands engage more than 118 million people daily with a wide variety of content generated on a local and national level. The joint announcement was made today at the Gannett Upfront in New York by Maryam Banikarim, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Gannett Co., Inc. and Meryl Poster, President of Television, The Weinstein Company.
Gannett and TWC will retain a development executive to run lead on this new business venture, which will serve as a new development pipeline for both scripted and non-scripted fare. TWC will distribute all titles that move forward through the program content partnership. Additional details about the joint venture will be forthcoming.
