"The immigration reform proposal offered by the so-called Gang of Eight is remarkably similar to the failed amnesty bill of 2007. It is legislation that provides amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, more employment based immigration at a time of historically high unemployment, no end to family chain migration, and vague and worthless promises that illegal immigration will be controlled in the future.
"The framework is designed to satisfy the demands of illegal aliens and their advocates, and business interests that want more cheap labor. It includes nothing that would benefit law-abiding American workers and taxpayers. American taxpayers will be saddled with staggering costs in the future as millions of poorly skilled illegal aliens become eligible for government services and programs.
"We expect that once the American public learns of the details of this proposal, and comes to recognize that it will do nothing to fix the problems of our broken immigration system, it will meet with the same overwhelmingly negative response that it received in 2007."
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a national, nonprofit, public-interest, membership organization of concerned citizens who share a common belief that our nation's immigration policies must be reformed to serve the national interest.
