Game Tracker wins Cox Business and Inc. Magazine's Get Started Roanoke startup competition
Game Tracker wins first place prize for game tracking device for archery hunters
ROANOKE, Va., Oct. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Cox Business's signature pitch competition, Get Started Roanoke, Jonathan Preedom wowed the judges – and the audience – with his patent-pending large game tracking device for archery hunters. Game Tracker will allow archery hunters to accurately and humanely track and recover game by synching with the hunter's cell phone and function in cellular and non-cellular environments.
Preedom plans to use the $5,500 cash prize to support manufacturing of the product and release the product for United States and Canadian markets.
Preedom was one of three local start-up business owners to present a two minute verbal pitch and answer questions from a panel of expert judges for a chance to win a prize package valued at more than $14,000 from Cox Business, Inc. Magazine and others. Expert judges for the competition included Ed Walker, entrepreneur and founder of Commonwealth Capital Partners, LLC; Maria Aspan, writer, editor and award-winning business journalist at Inc. Magazine; Tamea Franco, president & CEO of Global Metal Finishing, Inc.; and Jonathan Hagmaier, entrepreneur and long-time supporter and champion for the region's technology community.
"On behalf of Cox Business, I'd like to congratulate Game Tracker on its win at Get Started Roanoke," said Ken Kraft, vice president of Marketing for Cox Business, who also served as moderator for the evening. "We enjoy the opportunity to shine a light on entrepreneurship and celebrate those who are taking a chance and living their dreams. Our goal with Get Started events is to help drive these businesses forward by providing expert advice and connections with the right influencers."
Game Tracker won based on the company's innovation, ease of implementation and benefit to the community. Preedom also won a $250 gift card for being chosen as the audience favorite.
Get Started Roanoke was the 25th event in the "Get Started" series by Cox Business and Inc. Magazine; to date $250,000 in cash and prizes have been awarded to local entrepreneurs across the country.
